General Education Nomination Process for new Arts and Sciences courses
Any departments or programs in the College of Arts and Sciences that wish to have a new Arts and Sciences course count for one or more of the requirements that are part of the new Arts and Sciences General Education Curriculum should follow the instructions below. (Submit all nomination forms and related materials to: ascurriculum@colorado.edu or 275 UCB)ÌýÌý
Skills requirements and the Diversity requirement
All new Arts and Sciences courses need to be nominated to be considered for one of the four General Education Skill requirements (Foreign Language, Quantitative Reasoning and Mathematical Skills, Lower-Division Written Communication, or Upper-Division Written Communication) or to be considered for one of the two General Education Diversity requirements (United States Perspective or Global Perspective). To nominate a course for one or more of these requirements, please fill out the appropriate nomination form(s) linked to here:
- Foreign Language Requirement
- Quantitative Reasoning and Mathematical Skills Requirement
- Lower-division Written Communication Requirement
- Upper-division Written Communication Requirement
- Diversity Requirement
Distribution requirements
If a new Arts and Sciences course will fill a requirement in an Arts and Sciences major, minor or certificate (i.e., if it is an "MMC Course"), and if it is NOT an independent study, thesis, internship, practicum or skills course, it will count in at least one of the three General Education Distribution Requirements (Arts and Humanities, Natural Science, and/or Social Science.)
The Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee will consider the request made on this form and then make a determination about whether the new course needs to be nominated to be included in the distribution requirement indicated on the form.
If a new Arts and Sciences course will NOT fill a requirement in an Arts and Sciences major, minor or certificate, it needs to be nominated to be considered for inclusion one of the distribution requirements. To nominate such a course, please fill out the appropriate nomination form(s) linked to here:
- Distribution Requirement: Arts and Humanities
- Distribution Requirement: Natural Science
- Distribution Requirement: Social Science
Note: Skills courses can be nominated for distribution requirements, even though they won't automatically count for distribution.
