2018 BFA Excellence Awards Ceremony
The 2018 BFA Excellence Awards ceremony was held on Thursday, April 26, 4:30 p.m in the University Memorial Center. The event recognized 15 different faculty who won awards for their excellence in leadership and service, teaching and pedagogy, research and creative work, as well as a lifetime leadership and service. Opening remarks were given by Provost Moore and BFA Chair Robert Ferry. The keynote speech was given by the 2017 Hazel Barnes Award winner, Tom Cech.
A record number of nominees were received this year in all three categories of awards:
The Excellence in Leadership and Service award recognizes those who have shown outstanding leadership abilities and service to the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder community. This year’s winners were:
- Arturo Aldama – Ethnic Studies
- James Green – Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences
- Matthew McQueen – Integrative Physiology
- Karen Ramirez – Miramontes Arts & Sciences Program
The Excellence in Teaching and Pedagogy award celebrates faculty who have made significant impacts on student experiences through teaching and mentoring styles. This year’s winner were:
- Donna Goldstein – Anthropology
- David Shneer – Religious Studies/History/Program in Jewish Studies
- Katharine Suding – Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Kenneth Wright - English
Excellence in Research, Scholarly and Creative Work Award recognizes faculty whose research have been very significant to their department and fellow faculty members. This. Year’s winners were:
- Nichole Barger – Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Jeanne Clelland – Mathematics
- Elizabeth Dutro – School of Education
- Andrea Feldman – Program for Writing and Rhetoric
- Marcia Yonemoto - History
Along with these three categories, this year the BFA awarded a special Lifetime Leadership and Service Award to William Kaempfer honoring his long-time service and commitment to faculty at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder.
