The Department of Art and Art History invites applicants for the position of department chair. With nearly 600 undergraduate art majors and minors, 40 graduate students, 29 faculty and 11 staff, the department is a vibrant community of students, artists, and scholars. The Arts Practices faculty specialize in art foundations; painting and drawing; printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and post-studio practice, photography, video, digital arts, and critical and curatorial studies. The Art History program has specialists in Native American, Latin American, Asian, European, and modern and contemporary art and architecture, and is adding a new faculty member in African Diasporic art history in Fall 2022. The dynamic and engaged staff offer expertise in art practices, instruction, and administration, and a high degree of commitment to the success of the program.

The department offers undergraduates the BA in Art Practices and Art History; the BFA in Art Practices, and the BAM (Bachelors/Accelerated Masters) in Art History, as well as minors in both Art Practices and Art History. We offer MA and PhD degrees in art history and the MFA degree in art practices. The PhD in Arts of the Americas focuses on cross-cultural issues in the arts and historically underrepresented groups in world history. The MFA program is ranked nationally at #23. The department seeks a faculty member at the rank of Full Professor or advanced Associate Professor with a strong record of administrative experience and accomplishment. The position carries a stipend determined by the College. The position has a 12-month contract and offers a reduced teaching load in recognition of service. Appointment will begin July 1, 2022.
