The Department of History at Vassar College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in East Asian History at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2024. Specialization in any aspect of modern East Asian history is welcome; ability to teach modern Chinese history and/or modern Japanese history is preferred. Candidates are also expected to contribute to Vassar’s Program in Asian Studies. Candidates interested in participating in other ways to Vassar’s rich array of departments and multidisciplinary programs, such as the Department of Chinese and Japanese and the International Studies Program, are especially encouraged to apply.

Teaching load in the first year is four courses; after that it is four courses plus a tutorial-style “intensive” which may include supervision of senior theses.How to Apply Candidates must have the Ph.D. in History or Asian Studies in hand at the start of employment.
