Catalog Description
This course explores the multiple facets of Krishna in Indian religious experience through poetry and prose, painting and sculpture, music, dance, drama, and film. This devotional tradition known as bhakti is one of the most moving and beautiful artistic and spiritual expressions in South Asian culture. Students will engage with the tradition with a focus on the many aspects of Krishna: from child, lover, advisor in the midst of battle, and the creator. This course requires no prior knowledge of South Asian religions, language, or culture. The course and materials are in English. Formerly HNDI 3831.
