Dear Members of the CEAE Community,
Welcome back for the Fall 2022 semester! The CEAE Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee is excited to re-introduce our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) minute. The DEI minute is meant to be short and informative to raise awareness about DEI issues. We will send a new minute approximately every other week to the CEAE community. We are also glad to announce CEAE’s newly developed Inclusive Excellence webpage which also has information on our Anonymous Feedback Form. The form is for anonymous feedback related to your experience in our department, and it’s intended to address issues of department culture, leadership, and policy. Please note that it’s not intended to report an emergency or critical situation.
DEI Minute: Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder Land Acknowledgment StatementÌý
You may have seen that Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder adopted a new land acknowledgement statement (LAS), and many people include a LAS in their email signatures and start meetings with these statements. The LAS recognizes that our campus sits on land that is part of the traditional territories of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, Ute, and other Indigenous nations with historic and ongoing ties to Colorado. It also honors the contributions of these Indigenous communities, recognizes the devastating and lasting impacts of their forced removal from these territories critical to their heritage,Ìý and affirms CU’s commitment to improving and enhancing engagement with Indigenous peoples and issues locally and globally. A LAS can inspire new ways to approach the future, guiding necessary work to increase support of Indigenous communities in Boulder and around Colorado. The next time that you hear or read a LAS, consider challenging yourself to learn more about the peoples who lived on these lands and their history so that you might find a new way to honor them.Ìý
