In a state of Colorado proclamation, Gov. Jared Polis named Feb. 1 the Center for African and African American Studies Day in honor of Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder's CAAAS, which had its grand opening on Feb. 1.

"We want to show that African people are worldwide, and they’re making movies," Rabaka said. "They’re documenting their lives and their struggles."

The Center for African and African American Studies, known as "the CAAAS (The Cause)," officially launched this month at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ.

After being officially founded in 2021 amidst the pandemic, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder held a grand opening for the CAAAS.

The Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ is matching $1 million in private funding for the new Center for African and African American Studies, which held its grand opening on the first.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and Boulder community members packed the narrow halls of Macky Auditorium on the first day of Black History Month to celebrate the campus’s newest "cause"—the grand opening of the Center for African and African American Studies.

"I'm trying to create a home away from home for Black students, for Black faculty, Black staff and to reintroduce us to African culture."

At college, on campus and in class, Audrea Fryar was one of the few Black people and Black women at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ.
