In northern Greece on the afternoon of November 8, 1977, Manolis Andronikos opened an unlooted tomb, revealing spectacular grave goods.听 Soon, he announced he鈥檇 found not only the tombs of ancient Macedonian royalty, but the bones of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
A multinational museum tour was planned with a glossy, illustrated coffee-table book and a BBC Documentary.听 Yet cracks in the identification soon appeared, and scholars began asking:
