Registration Instructions for New First-Year Students

As a first-year student, the five steps belowÌýwill help you prepare for your first semester. All first-year engineering students starting in fall, spring, and summer terms should follow these steps. However, there are some slight differences for students that start in different terms. If you’re starting in a spring or summer semester, be sure to look for the special notes below.ÌýÌý

Step 1: Complete Required Registration Steps

These steps are required. YouÌýmust complete them before the deadlines to ensure a smooth registration process:ÌýÌý

  • Complete the Math Readiness Test by 11:59 p.m. MT on June 5. Missing this deadline could affect your ability to enroll in the classes you need for your first semester. We need this score in our systems because enrollment processes start before your AP/IB/Transfer credits postÌýto your record.Ìý
  • Complete the Online Experience.ÌýÌý
  • Choose anÌýEnrollment Window. You’ll be prompted to choose an enrollment window after you complete your Online Experience. Choose a date that works best with your summer work and travel schedule.

Step 2: Attend Engineering Summer Series

The Engineering Summer Series will help you get ready to start in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. You’ll have the opportunity to explore your interests, meet other students, ask questions about classes, and get lots of hands-on help through the registration process. Available sessions include:Ìý

  • Welcome to Engineering Advising:ÌýMeet some of our Engineering Academic Advisors and learn how theyÌýcan help you explore all the opportunities available to you. We’ll also review the summer timeline and answer questions about what you need to do before the fall.ÌýÌý
  • Engineering Exploration: In an interactiveÌýsession, we’ll suggest ways to get the most out of your first semester, answer questions about next steps, and help you develop questions for your academic advisor when you meet with them in June. You’ll also get to meet a few other new students!Ìý
  • Major Advising:ÌýMeet the academic advisors in your major and learn everything you need to know to get started in your department. Advisors will review the recommended courses for your first semester and other important major-related policies and information.ÌýÌý
  • Enrollment Essentials: Learn everything you need to know about the enrollment process. Through live, student-ledÌýdemonstrations and personal enrollment challenges,Ìýyou’ll get hands-on experience with the enrollment system and leave feeling preparedÌýto enroll in classes.ÌýÌý

Step 3: Prepare for Registration

It is important to prepare well in advance of when your enrollment window opens. Make sure you’ve done the following:ÌýÌý

Step 4: Register for Classes

  • Be ready before your enrollment window opens at 8:30 a.m.!Ìý
  • Check your shopping cart, adjust if necessaryÌý
  • Enroll in classes as soon as your window opens!ÌýÌý
  • Join a Zoom help room if you’re having trouble or have questionsÌýÌý

Step 5: Prepare for Move-In and Engineering Launch!

You are our first class in Engineering Connections, and we are so excited to welcome you to your new home away from home! From day one, you'll be welcomed into our community through fun events and activities that will give you the opportunity to meet other students and some faculty and staff in the college. Mark your calendars for these big events:ÌýÌý

  • Thursday, Aug.Ìý22: Engineering Connections Welcome, Class Photo & BBQÌý
  • Friday, Aug.Ìý23:Engineering Launch, a mandatory orientation experience for all first-year studentsÌýÌý
  • Tuesday, Sept. 5: Engineering Immersion, a college info and student society fairÌýÌý
