ENVS Assistant Professor,ÌýZia Mehrabi, and co-authors recently published an article titled "Matches and mismatches between the global distribution of major food crops and climate suitability" in the Proceedings of the Royal Society Biological Sciences investigating patterns of crop cultivation in comparison to climate of origination.

Dr. Mehrabi said a key takeaway of the paper was that,Ìý"people often say we need to grow different crops to adapt to future climate change. But reality is, climate is not a key factor influencing where people grow crops today. Many modellers of adaptation totally miss this important reality." Understanding this current reality can help in choosing crops that work best for certain climates moving forward.Ìý
