Household air pollution is the leading environmental health risk factor worldwide and is responsible for 2.8 million premature deaths each year. Most homes in the Navajostove Nation use wood as their primary heating fuel, often in combination withÌýlocally mined coal. Previous studies have observed health effects linked to this solid-fuel use in several Navajo communities;Ìýhowever, emission factors ofÌýtheseÌýfuelsÌýhadÌýyet to beÌýreported using a relevant stove type. In this study, four solid fuels commonly used for residential heating in the Navajo NationsÌýwere tested using a representative Navajo homestove.
