Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool Review and Approval

Review Process

The use of IT products must adhere to to ensure they meet security requirements to protect university information. Ensuring the protection of university data that is used with artificial intelligence (AI) tools is particularly critical because of the ways most AI models store and use uploaded data to train their models.

Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder requires that accessibility and security compliance provisions be included in all contracts or user agreements. AI tools and integrations are evaluated by Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s Information Technology Accessibility and Security Review Process, also known as the ICT Review Process. The ICT Review Process applies to purchases and adoptions of all information technology regardless of the cost or funding source. The use of tools and services that have not completed the campus review is considered a breach of campus guidelines. Learn more about the ICT Review Process.

Restriction of AI Tools

Until AI tools and integrations are approved by the ICT Review Process, they are disabled across university accounts and licenses. Disabling of AI tools and integrations ensures adequate vetting of third parties with access to university information, while protecting the privacy and confidentiality of university data.

OIT maintains a list of enterprise-level tools that include any level of AI capability which have been vetted and approved by Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder on the AI Tools List page. Campus users are encouraged to utilize approved tools as needed with the approved level of data as listed on the AI Tools List page.
