Mingzhe Liu

  • Ph.D. Student
  • DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING

Education Background

Mingzhe Liu is an Architectural Engineering Ph.D. student in the Sustainable Buildings and Societies Laboratory. Mingzhe received his bachelor’s degree in Building Environment and Facilities Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 2014. He then received his master's and doctoral degree in HVAC engineering at the University of Tokyo in 2020. His master's and doctoral research mainly focus on the utilization of renewable energy and heat pumps in building energy systems. During master's and doctoral phases, Mingzhe mainly participated in the project of developing a decentralized heat pump system, which was designed to utilize multiple kinds of renewable energy. The project was fully supported by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), which always supports researches with high quality in Japan.

Research Interests

District/building energy system, Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings, Energy system modeling and optimization
