Allen Hsiao up in the mountains

I am a Construction Grammarian who views linguistic signs as encompassing not only words and lexemes but also constructions at varying levels of lexical fixedness—from idiomatic expressions like kick the bucket to argument-structure patterns, such as the Caused-Motion construction, as in kick the ball into the bucket.

I am also a cognitive linguist, investigating cognitive mechanisms that drive linguistic phenomena. One of my key research areas focuses on how analogy drives denominal verbs’ selection of argument-structure patterns. My approach integrates methods from corpus linguistics, distributional semantics, and machine learning to address these syntactic-semantic questions.
