Alejandro Castaño is a Denver-based jazz and Afro-Cuban drummer and percussionist. A first-generation Colombian and Cuban-American, he draws inspiration from his culture for his music.
Castaño is an active performer and educator in the United States and abroad. He has performed and recorded with Chuchito Valdés, Ron Miles, Benny Benack III, Gerardo Aguillón, Raul Murciano, Steve Turre, Jonathan Powell, Greg Gisbert, Annie Booth and others.
He has conducted master classes at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Truman State University, University of Jamestown and University of Wyoming. Since 2012, he has been a guest artist and educator at the National University of Costa Rica.
Castaño earned a Master of Music in jazz performance and pedagogy from the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ where he researched the music of Cuba. He is now an educator at the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ, Denver School of the Arts and Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts.
Castaño performs regularly at Denver jazz venues and beyond.
