Organization

The Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ Retired Faculty Association (UCBRFA) is an organization comprised of retired faculty and administrative professionals from the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ. The association is supported and funded by the Office of the Chancellor, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Faculty Affairs, and is closely allied with the Boulder Faculty Assembly (BFA).

The following group of members is given broad decision authority by The UCBRFA's By-Laws to govern the Association's mission, goals, programs, and image. The duties for each of these positions, as stipulated by the UCBRFA Provisional Bylaws, are as follows: 

The Chair calls, sets the agenda for and presides over all UCBRFA general meetings, and chairs all BoD meetings.  The Chair reports regularly to the BoD, to the UCBRFA, and to the Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs.  The Chair sees that actions declared at these meetings are properly executed and may appoint a responsible person(s) to do so.  In consultation with the BoD, the Chair may appoint At Large members to serve on the BoD.  In consultation with the BoD, the Chair may also appoint committees, temporary or permanent.  The Chair ensures that all reports are properly filed and retained.

The Vice-Chair assists the Chair, has full authority to act for the Chair in her/his absence or incapacity, and performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Chair.

The Secretary maintains and distributes in a timely manner "minutes" of UCBRFA meetings and BoD meetings.  The Secretary provides notices to the UCBRFA and BoD members as necessary.  The Secretary maintains the UCBRFA membership list, and files and retains any official forms required by the university.

The Treasurer is responsible for ensuring the collection of all dues and other income, is responsible for handling all disbursements of the UCBRFA, has supervision of all funds belonging to the organization, and is responsible concerning all fiscal matters of the UCBRFA.  The Treasurer reports to the BoD in a timely manner all financial activities of the UCBRFA and prepares an annual financial statement for the UCBRFA members.

J Mckim Malville is interim Chair of the association, and Leland Giovannelli is interim Vice-Chair of the association.

  • Nomination process begins. An email will be sent to the membership announcing the nomination and election processes, with details on the UCBRFA website. All nominations can be submitted by clicking on the "Submit Your Nominations" button.
  • Nomination process closes.
  • Election process begins. The ballot will be made available to the membership and information about the nominees for each officer position will be posted on the website. Eligible voters (Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder retired faculty) should submit their ballot by clicking the "Submit Your Vote!" button.
  • Voting ends at 5:00 PM (MST).
  • Election results will be announced at the Spring Business meeting and posted on the UCBRFA website.

The following are current standing committees within The UCBRFA and their corresponding duties.

  • Communications: Messaging, website, marketing, digital newsletter
  • Membership: Outreach, surveys, onboarding, contact lists
  • Operations: Bylaws, budget, elections, meeting arrangements
  • Programs: Distinguished Professor Seminar Series, monthly seminars, social events
  • Research Awards: Applications review, funding, archives

Membership

The Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ Retired Faculty Association (UCBRFA) serves as the principal venue for retired faculty members to remain involved in activities of the Boulder Campus. Participating in RFA events is a way for retired faculty members to maintain social, intellectual, and professional contacts, contribute to the Boulder Campus, and remain informed about on-campus developments and retired faculty benefits programs.

Current and planned events of the RFA include:

  • Monthly Distinguished Faculty Lectures
  • The RFA Research Award Program
  • Coordination with the Boulder Faculty Assembly and the Office of Information Technology to clarify changes in Microsoft and Google software changes and their impact on retired faculty
  • Collaboration with the Office of Faculty Affairs to include retired faculty in campus faculty mentoring programs
  • RFA business meetings
  • Social events (lunches, happy hours, coffee klatches, etc.)

RFA members have an opportunity to shape the future of the association by active participation in its activities.

Eligibility

UCBRFA membership is free. All retired faculty, including those who have formalized retirement plans with their unit/college/administration, are invited and encouraged to join the RFA. If interested in joining, please contact retiredfaculty@colorado.edu.
