The SLHS Department聽congratulates聽Vincent Salazar聽as the聽first聽recipient of聽the Marilyn Kaye Johnson Scholarship in Fall 2020. This scholarship provides $1,000 funding in the fall semester of Vincent鈥檚 first academic year. The Marilyn Kaye Johnson Scholarship is established in memory of Marilyn Kaye Johnson. Marilyn received a M.A. in Communications Disorders and Speech Science from 麻豆免费版下载in 1985. She dedicated over 20 years of her life to serving as a speech-language pathologist for K-12 students in the Navajo school system operated by the federal government鈥檚 Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). It was Marilyn鈥檚 complete devotion to her 鈥渒ids鈥 that made her special. Not only was she their speech therapist,聽she聽bought them gifts and supplied them with basics such as glasses and clothing that many Navajo families living on the reservation could simply not afford. 聽
