The Vice ChancellorÂ’s Awards and Grants Advising Committee at the University of Colorado at Boulder has awarded grants to support outreach projects by 22 CU-Boulder employees for 1997-98.

Outreach programs extend the resources of the university and serve various educational, social, economic and cultural needs of communities throughout Colorado.

Last April, the Council of Deans approved a plan to strengthen campus outreach initiatives and to integrate outreach more fully with CU-BoulderÂ’s teaching and research mission. Outreach funds were provided by Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Philip DiStefano and the Division of Continuing Education.

The awards, which ranged from $760 to $7,000 and totaled $97,860, were presented to selected programs chosen from 43 project proposals:

• Richard Delgado of law, $6,000 for “Colorado Oral History: Stories of Hardship and the Quest for Higher Education”

• Julie Simson of music, $3,200 for the community outreach performance of “Amahl & the Night Visitors”

• Judith Bock of arts and sciences, $7,000 for “Will Power Education and Community Outreach Programs”

• Joy James of arts and sciences, $6,500 for “Unfinished Liberation: Critical Perspectives on Feminism, Coalitions, and ‘Black’ Freedom”

• Anne Dougherty of arts and sciences, $6,000 for “Identification of High School Students Likely to have Difficulty with Calculus I”

• Noel Clark of arts and sciences, $3,000 for “Liquid Crystal Outreach”

• Kathryn Palmer of arts and sciences, $4,400 for “Fostering Critical Inquiry Through the High School Writing Workshop”

• James Jankowski of arts and sciences, $5,200 for “History department outreach to middle and high schools in Colorado”

• Sara Goering of arts and sciences, $6,500 for “Philosophy outreach program of Colorado”

• David Capps of arts and sciences, $2,100 for “Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØMoving Company 97-98 Season”

• Jerri Davis of arts and sciences, $760 for “Ladies Doing Life”

• Tiffany Shaw of the Graduate School, $2,200 for “VioDisplay”

• Nancy Silbert of the Graduate School, $2,000 for “Museum Discovery Corner Program Expansion”

• Alex Weaver of the Graduate School, $5,000 for “Earthworks: Education Teachers in Earth Systems Sciences”

• Dennis Jackson of music, $5,000 for “Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØThis Summer: Music programs”

• Nada Diachenko of arts and sciences, $6,500 for “Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØThis Summer: Dance programs”

• Diane Clymer of the Graduate School, $6,500 for “Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØThis Summer: Museum programs”

• Susan Krane of arts and sciences, $6,000 for “Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØThis Summer: Exhibitions”

• Sarah Krakoff of law, $6,000 for the “American Indian Education Project”

• Elaine Hansen of engineering, $7,000 for “A Colorado-wide K-16, Space Mission Demonstration: The Citizen Explorer”

• Leonard Baca of education, $1,000 for the Hmong Conference.
