The University of Colorado Law School next week will host two conferences, beginning with the Gathering of the Bench and Bar at the Wolf Law Building and the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder.

The Bench and Bar Conference Oct. 1-3 will bring lawyers and jurists from across the nation to discuss some of the most important issues facing the legal profession today including the future of privacy law in the era of big data. Speakers will include Jason Furman, chairman of the President鈥檚 Council of Economic Advisers, to talk about the state of the economy; Ashlie Beringer, vice president at Facebook; and Michael Dillon, general counsel at Adobe Systems.

On Oct. 2, the Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law will host the 22nd Annual Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. Conference at CU-Boulder鈥檚 Wolf Law Building.

This year鈥檚 Rothgerber Conference, 鈥淟itigating Constitutional Change,鈥 will feature scholars and lawyers discussing the people and strategies that have shaped litigation on the Second Amendment, gay marriage, voting rights, abortion and other controversial constitutional questions.

The Rothgerber Conference brings renowned scholars, attorneys and commentators to Boulder to discuss topical constitutional issues. This year鈥檚 event focuses on the ways in which litigation strategy contributes to the shape of and responds to constitutional change. Speakers will include Dennis Parker from the American Civil Liberties Union, David Codell from the National Center for Lesbian Rights and David Kopel from the Independence Institute. 听

Last year鈥檚 Rothgerber Conference focused on federalism in the context of debates surrounding marijuana legalization, gun rights and immigration. The conference and the Byron White Center were made possible by generous gifts from Ira Rothgerber Jr., who died in 1993.
