Dear colleagues,

As our semester draws to a close and with the holiday season upon us, I want to offer a special thanks to you for your work in advancing the academic mission.

Provost Moore with other officials during a Department of Defense visit in April 2023

The semester has been challenging, with two major wars, continued political divisions at home, two narrowly averted federal shutdowns, and statewide elections.

Yet, there is much that inspires me.

Our second-fall retention, which measures undergraduate students retained from their first fall semester to their second, hit 89.1% this fall, an all-time record. Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder faculty attracted a record $684.2 million in fiscal year 2022–23 in sponsored research funding, and continue to engage in innovative scholarship and creative work. Our staff made innovations daily that supported this work and helped to implement it in classrooms, departments, laboratories, and right here in our community.

As these challenges and achievements continue, I encourage you to take time during winter break to connect with friends and family and enjoy quiet, rejuvenating time together. The Provost’s Post will be back with a new edition for a new year in late January.

In the meantime, know how grateful I am for your contributions that help create new knowledge, transform lives, and advance the public good. Happy holidays, and my best to each of you.

Warmly,

Russ
