Thus far I have had the opportunity to live in two different countries. Being a Mexican native and spending the majority of my elementary education there, I was given the opportunity to develop understandings on the way a struggling 1st world country endures. Born and raised in an underdeveloped neighborhood, having the opportunity to move the U.S to further my education came as a culture shock. Differences amongst communities, infrastructure and quality of life were readily noticeable and evident. As I continue to assimilate and become used to this being my norm, I continue to reflect back on the experiences and understandings I gained living in two opposite environments, both with their respective upsides and downsides, as well as intricate lessons. My hope is to continue having the ability to learn and develop my adult life through various lenses of cultures, customs, people, and ideas. I find it important for a well rounded individual to have a variety of interactions to better shape them and their ideals; that being said I hope to achieve that during and after college through student body as well as supplemental travel to various regions and countries.
The convergence of ideation and application methods positively boost the development of the engineering field as a whole. In my mind it parallels the benefits of team work; if one team member, say a country, utilizes and employs a certain design tactic for a set of designs but another team, or country, has a better, more effective tactic they use for the same overall result, it would come as a shock if the better tactic wasn't immediately put to use for the project. However, what would happen if the two individuals discussed and worked together to develop a better, more efficient approach to fulfill their needs? I think that as population change, cities morph, and needs increase, the need for global convergences will become dire and frequent. As ideas are explained, discussed and develop, the world as a whole can progress and employ tactics that may be uncustomary but overall beneficent for a new region.
Ever since moving to the U.S and recognizing my chances of making a positive impact on my communities and the world, I have made it my mission to succeed and begin efforts to support and give back. Coming from a median to low background, I often reaped the benefits of discounted lunches, special activity programs and overall community support in situations that required it, as a result I soon became grateful of the resources and opportunities that existed for those that needed it. Additionally, personal accounts from underdeveloped infrastructure in both Mexico and the U.S made it evident that there exists a need for support and advocacy everywhere. I believe that become part of this community would exemplify my ideals as well as consistently hold me accountable towards my goals and aspirations. I look forward to interacting with other people within this community and learning form them as well as further develop my engineering knowledge and experience as a whole. I believe that my background and upbringing as well as open and interactive persona will positively develop relationships and connections as well as form bonds and alliances with my peers.
