For students with no previous knowledge of Greek. Introduces basic grammar and vocabulary.

Completes the presentation of grammar and introduces reading of literature.

Readings in ancient (koine) Greek from the New Testament and the Septuagint. Students aim to achieve fluency in reading and to enrich their knowledge of key terms and ideas borrowed from the Greek past in the early Christian tradition.

Recommended: GREK 1013 and 1023.
May be repeated up to 4 total credit hours.

Reading of selected prose texts of authors in ancient Greek such as Plato, Xenophon, Lysias, and selections from the Greek New Testament. Incorporates review of grammar.

3 credits
Prerequesites: GREK 1013 and 1023 or equivalent.
May be repeated for a total of 6 credit hours.
This course also meets the MAPS requirement for foreign language.

Reading of selections from Homer or a Greek tragedy in ancient Greek, with attention to literary form and context as well as advanced grammar and syntax.

3 credits
Recommended: GREK 1013, 1023, and 3113, or equivalent.
May be repeated for a total of 6 credit hours.

Author or topic in ancient Greek specified in the online Schedule Planner (e.g., Thucydides, Herodotus, Plato, Aristotle, Attic Orators).

3 credits
May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours for different topics.
Concurrent with GREK 5013.

Author or topic in ancient Greek specified in the online Schedule Planner (e.g., Homer, Hesiod, lyric poetry, tragedy, comedy).

Concurrent with GREK 5023.

Greek literary history in ancient Greek from Homer to the Hellenistic age.

Recommended: GREK 3113 and 3123 or equivalent.
Concurrent with GREK 5093.

May be repeated for a total of 7 credit hours.
Like all Independent Studies, this course does NOT help satisfy any Gen Ed requirement.
