How to Apply: Teacher Licensure
We are thrilled that you are considering applying to the 鶹ѰBoulder School of Education Secondary Teacher Licensure Program!
Incoming first-year students can now apply directly to all of our undergraduate and teacher licensure programs—including secondary education! However, secondary education students will also be enrolled in a content-area major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Here are some helpful tips about how to apply to Secondary Education:
- Step 1: In your 鶹ѰBoulder Common Application, select “School of Education/ College of Arts and Sciences” as your Program. Note: Elementary Education and Leadership & Community Engagement students should select “School of Education.”
- Step 2: Select the major that corresponds to the Arts and Sciences major you wish to pursue alongside of your Secondary Education license. Hint: select a major in the subject are you want to teach! For example, if you want to be a Science teacher, choose one of our Science majors.
- Step 3: Connect with us! We’ll invite you to join us and our supportive community in the School of Education for opportunities to know our programs, faculty, staff and students. If you are admitted to 鶹ѰBoulder, our advising team can help you prior to your first year to help set you up for admission into the School of Education and help you select some first-year courses that will get you ready for the licensure program. Contact our advising team at edadvise@colorado.edu.
- Step 4: Await your admission decision! If you are directly admitted you will begin in your chosen term as both an Education student and as an Arts & Sciences student in your major of choice. If you are not directly admitted, you may be offered a spot in your Arts & Sciences major only. If you still want to join Education, you can re-apply as a licensure student at the end of your freshman or sophomore years.
