Theoretical Advanced Study Institute in Elementary Particle Physics (TASI)
TASI Overview
TASI has been held each summer since 1984, originally at Michigan, Yale, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe and Brown, and since 1989 in Boulder. Each year, typically, some sixty of the most promising advanced theory graduate students in the United States, along with a few beginning postdocs and experimental graduate students, have attended TASI. TASI 2024, titled 鈥淭he Frontiers of Particle Theory,鈥 will be held from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 28 at the 麻豆免费版下载. The emphasis shifts from year to year, but typically, there have been courses of lectures on phenomenology, quantum field theory, string theory, and the particle/astrophysics interface, as well as seminars on other theoretical and experimental topics. It has been highly successful, especially in introducing students to a broader range of ideas than they normally experience at their home institutions or while working on their dissertation topics.
The themes of recent TASI schools were 鈥淎spects of Symmetry鈥, 鈥淭en Years After the Higgs Discovery: Particle Physics Now and Future鈥, and 鈥淏lack Holes, Quantum Information, and Dualities鈥.
TASI has limited funds to support participants. In past years, most of the participants were given partial support to take care of the cost of meals and accommodation at one of the residence halls on campus and some travel expenses.
TASI is managed by a Scientific Advisory Board. Presently, its members are L. Dixon, Chair (SLAC), M. Cveti膷 (Penn), L. Rastelli (Stony Brook), L. Reina (Florida State), K. Scholberg (Duke), and T. Tait (Irvine). The General Directors are Oliver DeWolfe and Ethan Neil (Colorado). Thomas DeGrand was General Director from 2014-2020, and K. T. Mahanthappa was General Director from 1989-2013.
TASI is supported by the and .
Boulder
Boulder is forty miles from Denver International Airport. The campus is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5400 feet. The weather during June is usually quite pleasant, with a temperature range of 55掳 F to 85掳 F, low humidity, and regular afternoon thunderstorms. A sweater is a necessity and rain gear is useful.
Housing and Meals
In a typical year, students are housed in one of the residence halls on campus, two people per room. There are a few single rooms. Each room is equipped with two single beds. Assuming in-person attendance, we expect arrival on June 2 (Sunday) and departure on June 29 (Saturday). All weekday meals and Saturday brunch will be provided, except on June 29. The cost of lodging and board for this period will be approximately $1700 per person.
Registration Fees
As per the laws of the State of Colorado and the policies of the 麻豆免费版下载, all registrants should hereby be aware that some portion of the registration fee will be used to purchase alcoholic beverages.
