About Your Shopping Cart

Registering for classes is a lot like shopping online. Once you've logged in to , search for classes and select "Add to Cart" to set aside the ones you want to take.

Those classes will remain in your cart until you finish registering or remove them—however, they aren't yours yet. If other students register before you do, it's possible one or more classes in your cart will be closed by the time you register. If that happens, don't panic. Consider joining the class waitlist or registering for a different section of the same class.

How to Search for Classes

From Buff Portal

  1. Follow this link to Buff Portal's  (you may be prompted to log in).
  2. Select "Plan" to expand that section, then select "Go to Class Search."

From the Web

  1. Go to .
  2. Click the "Login" link at the top right.
  3. If you're not logged in automatically, enter your IdentiKey username and password, then click "Log In."

Basic Searches

To jump right in, go to the search field and enter your desired topic, subject, instructor or keyword.

You can also refine your results based on a variety of criteria:

  Term: This defaults to the upcoming term. Use the drop-down to change it.
  Any Subject: Limit results to classes in a specific subject (e.g., DNCE).
  Any Campus: Limit results to Boulder Main Campus or Boulder Continuing Education classes.
  Any Career: Limit results to graduate, law, noncredit or undergraduate classes.
  Avoid Schedule Conflicts: Don't show classes that meet at the same time as classes that are in your cart or that you've already registered for.
  Avoid Certain Time Periods: Don’t show classes that meet on specific days and times.
 

Advanced Searches

Use these options to limit your search to classes that fulfill your college or school's general education requirements, meet on specific days and times, offer a certain number of credits, meet in person, etc.

Resetting Your Search Criteria

To clear all search criteria, click either "Reset All Filters" in the search panel or "Reset Search" in the search results panel.

The search results panel displays basic information about classes matching your criteria (e.g., course number, title, credits).

  To see course details, click on the course.
  To see a calendar view of the search results, click on the calendar icon.
  To close the search panel but retain your search criteria, click on the left arrow.
  To clear your search criteria, click "Reset Search."

In the course details panel, follow these steps to add a class to your cart:

  1. Select a section, if applicable.
  2. Click "Add to Cart."
  3. A pop-up will confirm that you're adding the section to your cart. Click "OK."
  4. Select your grade mode, if applicable, and whether you want to join the waitlist if the class is full, then click "Save Changes."
  5. The class now appears in your shopping cart with a blue cart icon to indicate you haven't registered for it yet.
  6. To finish registering, see add a class.

To remove non-enrolled classes from your cart:

  1. In , confirm that the correct semester is selected in the drop-down.
  2. Click the cart icon on the upper right.
  3. To remove all non-enrolled classes, click "Empty Cart/Discard Changes." To remove a single class, click on the class to open the details panel, then click "Remove from Cart" and "OK."

Classes you haven't registered for yet are indicated by a blue cart icon. If you want to remove a class you've registered for (indicated by a black checkmark), follow the steps to drop the class.

Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder Class Search uses several different icons to help you understand what's going on with a particular class.

  â€‹Black checkmark: You're registered for the class.

  Black hourglass: You're on the waitlist for the class. Hover over the icon to check your waitlist position.

  Blue shopping cart: The class is in your cart (you haven't registered for it yet).

  Green checkmark: You've taken the class before. Some classes (especially special topics) are repeatable for credit; read the class notes for details.

  Red minus sign: You've started the process of dropping this class.

  Yellow warning sign: Either you're in the process of changing something about this class (e.g., you're setting up drop if enrolled) or there's a restriction that will prevent you from registering for it (e.g., there's a schedule conflict or you haven't met the course prerequisites). Hover over the icon to read the message text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every class at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder is taught using one or more of the following instruction modes:

  In Person: The class meets in person, typically on campus, on scheduled days and times (synchronously).

  Online: The class is taught online with no scheduled class meetings. Students can complete the coursework throughout the week when it's convenient for them (asynchronously).

  Remote: The class meets over Zoom, lecture capture or Canvas on scheduled days and times (synchronously).

  Independent Study: A course in which a student is formally enrolled during a period of research or independent study instruction and wherein a faculty member interacts with and directs student projects or other required activities with minimal associated direction. May be delivered in person, online, remote or using a combination of instruction modes.

If a class uses a combination of instruction modes, then it's a hybrid class:

  Hybrid In Person: A combination of in-person instruction (same meeting patterns for all enrolled students) with online and/or remote learning. Either:

  • Taught simultaneously with some students attending in person and others attending remotely for every class session, with the instructor in the classroom or 
  • Taught in person with at least one in-person class session per week, and the other instruction delivered remotely or online, following the same pattern from week to week

  Hybrid Remote/Online: A combination of online and remote instruction.

There is no sign-out or log-off button; instead, users are automatically logged out after 60 minutes of inactivity.
