Why does wellness matter?

Good health and wellness—or overall wellbeing—are critical during the college years and beyond. Incorporating eight dimensions of wellness—emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, spiritual—improves morale, increases productivity and yields the ability to thrive.

 

Eight Dimensions of Wellness: Definitions and Potential Resources

Emotional or mental wellness means coping effectively with life and creating satisfying relationships.

Potential Resources: Counseling and Psychiatric Services, Death and Grieving and Mental Health Workshops

Environmental wellness means good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support well-being.

Potential Resources: Outdoor Adventure and Intramural Sports

Financial wellness means satisfaction with current and future financial situations.

Intellectual wellness means recognizing creative abilities and finding ways to expand knowledge and skills.
